As my Acura RSX Type S clocked in at 105k miles, I decided it was high time to give my trusty vehicle the cooling system overhaul it deserved. I eagerly rolled up my sleeves, preparing to replace the aging radiator with a Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator. In this article, I’m share the benefits of this upgrade and the comprehensive cooling system improvements I’ve made for my DC5 Integra/RSX Type S. You can see the full install on my YouTube channel.
Enhancing Cooling Efficiency:
With the Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator, the first benefit that caught my attention was the promise of improved cooling efficiency. The radiator’s larger surface area and advanced core design meant better heat dissipation—a crucial factor for a high-performance engine like the K20A2, especially during spirited drives and track sessions.
Aluminum Magic for Heat Dissipation:
Mishimoto’s choice of aluminum construction intrigued me. I learned that aluminum’s superior heat conductivity helps efficiently transfer heat away from the engine. This isn’t the first time I installed this, my first RSX was upgraded to this when the radiator went out at 140k, this time, I’m doing it early before it fails. This material is not only lightweight but also durable, promising a cooling solution that can handle the heat generated by my spirited driving style.
Investing in Durability and Longevity:
The robust build of Mishimoto radiators assured me of their durability, a quality I value in any upgrade. Knowing that this aluminum radiator was designed for longevity added to my confidence in making this investment for the long haul.
A Comprehensive Cooling System Upgrade:
Upgrading to the Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator wasn’t a standalone decision. I opted for a complete cooling system overhaul, incorporating Mishimoto’s Fan Shroud Kit, a new OEM thermostat, Mishimoto Upper and Lower Radiator hoses, and their Fan Switch. This holistic approach aimed to create a seamless synergy within the cooling system.
Lowering the Activation Temperature:
Installing the Mishimoto Fan Switch was a small yet significant tweak. Lowering the temperature at which the cooling fan kicks in meant proactively preventing any potential heat buildup. This control mechanism is a simple yet effective way to keep my engine operating within the optimal temperature range.
Conclusion:
Embarking on this cooling system overhaul for my RSX Type S has been a rewarding journey. The Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator, complemented by their cooling system components, has revitalized my confidence in the vehicle’s ability to handle the demands of spirited driving. Now, with an optimized and efficient cooling system, I’m ready to hit the road with the assurance that my RSX Type S is equipped for whatever driving adventures lie ahead. Cheers to a refreshed and resilient cooling system!
