Changing out the front lower control arms and front ball joints turned out to be a bigger job than expected. The damage to the axle required me to change the driver side one. I opted to changing both and refresh it with the Yonaka Motorsports Axles for 2002 – 2006 Acura RSX Type S (YMAX004).
There are a number of options you can go with axles depending on budget and the horsepower you have or want to have. I went with Yonaka because I wanted the vibration bushing. I’ve often felt the difference with that oem piece versus a kragen / o’reilly version. That was about 10 years ago though. I know a lot of people that go with Autozone axles called Duralast because of the lifetime no hassle warranty. If you want really good axles that aren’t as pricey as Spoon, but still good, drivers have told me about Insane Shaft Axles. They can handle up to 500 hp rating.
The Yonaka axles mentions it can handle 250 base horse power. While I’m not sure if I’m going to test it to that limit anytime soon, I felt that it should be able to handle my stock Type S is rated at 200 base horsepower. This is a risk because if you search online, there are a lot of mixed feelings about this brand. Some like it, some don’t, with some stories about the axles snapping. Of course it’s always hard to tell by the forums in what situation or car these axles were in.
For now I’m going to make due with it and see how it runs. Nothing teaches you more than personal experience. I posted a video of the install and unboxing on my YouTube Channel:
